RINDGE, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team opened its game at Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday with a 15-0 run en route to a 62-33 victory over the Ravens.

Box Score

Saint Anselm improves to 3-0 on the young season, securing its first Northeast-10 Conference victory of the 2018-19 campaign. Franklin Pierce falls to 0-3 on the year and to 0-1 against league opponents. The Hawks now own a five-game winning streak over the Ravens.

The Hawks defense limited Franklin Pierce to 19.6% shooting from the floor (10-for-51). The last time a Saint Anselm team kept its opponent under 20% shooting on the evening was on Dec. 29, 2002 in a 55-37 victory over Lock Haven – in that contest, the Hawks yielded only 12 made baskets on 62 total attempts (19.4%).

Sophomore Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 13 points, posting seven of those points at the free-throw line. Classmate Grace Guachione (Pittsfield, Mass.) poured home 12 points, matching Steinman at the charity stripe with seven made free throws, while junior Shannon Ryan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) equaled Guachione with 12 points.

The Hawks opened the game with 15-straight points as Steinman capped the rally with a steal and a fast-break layup, forcing Franklin Pierce to take its first timeout of the game. The first Ravens basket of the evening came with 3:16 left in the first quarter – Saint Anselm limited the hosts to only nine first-quarter points.

Saint Anselm closed the opening half on an eight-point scoring run, building a 31-13 lead heading into halftime. Steinman cashed in with five points during that stretch, limiting the Ravens to only four points in the fourth quarter. Franklin Pierce was 4-for-26 in the opening half of action, committing 14 turnovers alone in that span.

The Hawks defense continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, yielding only three field goals while Ryan posted six points and five rebounds in only eight minutes in that stanza. The fourth quarter saw Saint Anselm go to the line 12 times, making 11 free throws to put the game out of reach.

Franklin Pierce was led by Lisa Sulejmani who scored eight points in 28 minutes off the bench.

The Hawks head to Assumption on Saturday, Nov. 17 for a 1:30 p.m. tilt with the Greyhounds.
