Guers helps men's basketball to 90-77 road win over Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – A well-rounded stat line from junior Tim Guers helped the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team to a 90-77 victory over Stonehill College on the road Tuesday.

Box Score

The Hawks improve to 4-1 overall on the season, remaining undefeated in three Northeast-10 Conference fixtures to date. Stonehill has dropped four of its first five games, dipping to 1-2 against league foes. Saint Anselm hosts LIU Post this Sunday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m.

Tuesday's victory moves Head Coach Keith Dickson to only one victory shy of 600 across his 32-year career. To date, Dickson has compiled 599 wins in 919 games, a winning percentage of .652, since his promotion to Head Coach prior to the 1986-87 men's basketball season.

Guers fell just two assists shy of his second career triple-double, scoring 34 points and notching 14 rebounds. Cody Ball tallied 14 points and was joined in double-digit scoring figures by Taylor Fortin and Austin Nydegger who chipped in with 11 points apiece.

Stonehill sprinted out to the early 11-6 lead with only 3:42 expired in the contest. Despite being down by five points with 13:16 to go in the first half, the Hawks would score 23 of the game's next 29 points to capture a 33-21 lead with 7:11 left before halftime.

Kyle Green was 3-for-3 from the floor during the extended stretch of Saint Anselm scoring, putting home six points, while Guers completed the double-double through the game's first half. Nydegger led the Hawks with 11 points through the first 20 minutes while Ball also tabulated 10 points in that timeframe.

Saint Anselm led by as many as 22 points with only 2:27 expired in the second half. Guers would pour home 22 points himself down the stretch as the Hawks shot a combined 56% (15-for-27) to secure the victory. At one point, Guers was responsible for 12 consecutive Saint Anselm points en route to his monster game.

Guers has posted at least 34 points in each of his last two games played on the Paula Sullivan Court, scoring a career-high 37 in his team's narrow 85-84 win last season on Feb. 15, 2017.
