ALBANY, N.Y. – In a game that had 13 lead changes and eight ties, the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team came out on the wrong side of an 86-79 decision to the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon in Albany, N.Y.

The Hawks falls to 6-5 and 4-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while Saint Rose improves to 13-4 and 5-3 in conference games. Saint Anselm will try and snap a two game skid on Tuesday night when they host Le Moyne College at 7:30 p.m. game.
Tim Guers scored a team-high 22 points to go with five rebounds and five assists to lead the Hawks. Taylor Fortin added 17 points and four assists, while Grant Mackay registered a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Braley chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds, with Cody Ball scoring eight points.
Saint Rose had five players score in double-figures led by 16 points from Tyler Sayre and 15 points apiece from Chris Dorgler and Shane Herrity.
The two teams played a back-and-forth first half that saw seven ties and 12 lead changes. Tim Guers converted a three-point play to put the Hawks in front 5-4 in the early going and Grant Mackay scored inside to tie the game at 7-7 with 14:21 to play. Saint Rose answered with a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 lead before Taylor Fortin connected on a three pointer to make it a 13-10 game. Guers knocked down a pair of free throws at the 11:56 mark to make it a 13-12 deficit before Chris Braley sandwiched a layup and a three-pointer around a Tyler Sayre score to give the Hawks a 17-15 advantage.
Guers extended the lead to 20-17, and after 5-0 spurt by the Golden Knights, Cody Ball buried a three of his own to keep Saint Anselm in front 23-22. A 7-2 run by Saint Anselm including free throws from Guers and Fortin and a triple by Guers put Saint Anselm ahead 30-24 with 6:10 remaining in the half. Saint Rose answered with a 9-2 run to take a 33-32 lead before Cody Ball ended the run with a three-pointer to put the Hawks back on top 35-33.
As they had done the whole period, the two teams traded scores the rest of the frame as the game entered the half with the two teams tied at 39-all.
The score was tied 41-41 early in the second half following a dunk from Chris Braley before the Golden Knights answered with a 5-0 run capped by a Mical-Boyd Ryan triple to make it 46-41. Grant Mackay converted a three-point play to help the Hawks climb back to within one at 46-45 and he later buried a pair of free throws to keep it that way at 48-47 and 16:33 remaining in the period.
The Hawks fell behind 52-47 following a Tyler Sayre tip-in, but Austin Nydegger knocked down a jumper and Tim Guers followed with a score inside to make it a 52-51 game nearly two minutes later. The Hawks continued to chip away, answering each score by the Golden Knights, and a Kyle Green layup with 11:04 to play led to a Saint Anselm timeout with 11:04 remaining.
Guers hit a layup to pull the Hawks back to 61-58, and a triple by the sophomore at the 7:23 mark made it a 68-65 game. Taylor Fortin scored inside to keep it a 73-69 game with 3:47 to play, but the Golden Knights built a 77-69 lead on a Chris Dorgler layup and two Shane Herrity free throws. Fortin answered with a triple, but the Hawks would only get as close as six the rest of the way as Saint Rose went 9-for-10 at the charity stripe the rest of the way to ice the game.
Saint Anselm shot 41.7% (25-of-60) from the field, 39.1% (9-of-23) from three and 87% (20-of-23) from the free throw line in the game. Saint Rose countered by shooting 48.3% (29-of-60) from the floor, 44.4% (4-of-9) from three and 85.7% (24-of-28) from the free throw line. The Hawks held a slight 35-34 edge in rebounds, but committed 12 turnovers to just eight for the Golden Knights.
