MANCHESTER, N.H. – Candace Andrews scored a team-high 21 points, including the go-ahead basket in the closing seconds of overtime, to lead the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team to a 62-59 win over the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Hawks improve to 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the NE10 with the win and will host Franklin Pierce in their next game on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. New Haven had its three-game winning-streak snapped to drop to 5-14 and 4-10 in league games.
Andrews stuffed the stat sheet in addition to her 21 points as she grabbed a pair of rebounds to go with eight assists, four steals and two blocks. Ali Glennon joined her in double-figures with 11 points, while Kaila Duarte had nine points, eight rebounds and three steals. Sara Messler corralled a game-high 12 rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals.
New Haven was led by a game-high 27 points from Alexandria Kerr. Khayla Trowell and Katia Oge added seven points apiece, with Oge pulling in nine boards.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and a triple from Clairee Putnam extended the Saint Anselm lead to 7-2 with 5:41 to play in the opening period. New Haven answered with a small run of its own, using a 6-2 spurt to make it a 9-8 game on a Katia Oge three-point play. Candace Andrews came down and buried a jumper, but the Chargers scored the final four points of the period to take a 12-11 advantage into the second quarter.
Ali Glennon scored the first four points of the second period to put the Hawks ahead 15-12, and Andrews stole a pass and went in for the fast-break score to give Saint Anselm a 17-12 lead and forced a New Haven timeout with 5:47 to play. The Chargers responded again – this time using an 11-0 run – to grab a 23-17 edge and 2:08 remaining.
Erin Waters would trim the deficit to 23-19 in the final minute, but Katia Oge scored inside in the final seconds of the quarter to give New Haven a 25-19 lead headed into the break.
Out of halftime, Kerr knocked down a pair of free throws to give New Haven its largest lead of the game at 27-19.The Hawks scored five-straight points to pull back to within 27-24, and Sara Messler eventually tied the game with a free throw line jumper to make it a 30-30 game with 4:51 to play in the period. Kerr put New Haven back in front 33-30 with a triple, but the Hawks ended the quarter on a 12-3 run, including five points from Glennon, to take a 42-36 advantage into the fourth quarter.
This time New Haven opened the stanza with a run as the Chargers used an 8-2 stretch over the first three minutes of the quarter to tie the game at 44-44. The lead would change hands several times the rest of the quarter before Duarte and Kerr traded jumpers that knotted the game at 53-53 and 2:12 to play.
With 49 seconds remaining, Andrews scored on an inbound play to put Saint Anselm ahead 55-53, but Kerr came right down and buried a corner jumper to tie the game again. The Chargers forced a turnover with 28 seconds left, but could not convert on the other end as Messler came away with a defensive rebound. The Hawks raced up court, and Andrews had a look at the game-winner, but it was off its mark as the game spilled into overtime.
Andrews struck first for the Hawks with a pair of free throws at the 3:36 mark, and New Haven answered on the next possession with a Khayla Trowell jumper to tie the game at 57-57. Sade King gave New Haven a 59-57 lead with a 15-foot jumper and 1:45 remaining, and the Hawks were eventually able to tie the game as Messler and Duarte combined to go 2-for-4 at the charity stripe to make it a 59-59 ball game with 38 seconds remaining.
The Hawks were able to get a stop on defense and after a timeout, drew up something for Andrews. The senior eventually drove baseline and scooped home a layup while getting fouled to put Saint Anselm in front 61-59 with 11 seconds remaining. Andrews converted the three-point play, and was able to block Kerr's game-tying attempt before time expired to help Saint Anselm seal the 62-59 victory.
Saint Anselm shot 37.9% (22-of-58) from the field, 28.6% (4-of-14) from three and 73.7% (14-of-19) from the free throw line. New Haven knocked down 33.9% (21-of-62) of their shots, 38.5% (5-of-13) of their triples and 92.4% (12-of-13) of their free throws. The Chargers held a 41-38 edge in rebounds, while the Hawks committed 17 turnovers to 20 for the visitors.
