NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Conference-leading and second-ranked Norwich scored five times over the first two periods and went on to defeat the Saint Anselm College men's hockey team 6-1 in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play on Saturday at Kreitzberg Arena.

Six different skaters scored and Cody Smith had four assists for Norwich (17-1-2, 12-1-0 NEHC), which extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games and remained unbeaten (9-0-1) at home this season. Bryan Green scored a late goal for Saint Anselm (9-8-2, 7-8-1 NEHC) for his fourth goal in his last three games.
The Cadets scored once early and once late in the first period to lead 2-0 after 20 minutes. Todd Jackson broke the seal after 2:48 with an unassisted goal before Tyler Piacentini doubled Norwich's lead with 1:25 remaining in the opening period. The hosts outshot the Hawks 18-3 in the first 20 minutes.
Norwich tacked on three more goals in the second period. Brian Rowland made it 3-0 on the power play at 4:29, before Nick Pichette and William Pelletier scored in the final seven minutes of the period.
After Payton Baldillez scored 5:23 into the third for the Cadets, Green capped the scoring at 18:27 off an assist from Jon Pallotta. Pallotta's assist was his second in as many nights and his fourth in the last seven games.
Braeden Ostepchuk stopped 24-of-25 shots for Norwich to stretch his perfect record to 11-0-0 on the season. Three goalies saw time for the Hawks. Shane Joyce made five saves in the opening 6:06, Colin Soucy stopped 25 shots in 43:58 and Brenden Cain saved all four shots he faced in the final 9:56.
Saint Anselm is off for a week until a trip to New England College on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a 7 p.m. game against the Pilgrims.
