Green, Cameron lead men's hockey past Ravens in overtime

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Bryan Green scored twice, including the game-winner 1:57 into overtime, and added an assist to lead the Saint Anselm College men's hockey team to a 3-2 overtime victory over Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce on Tuesday night at Sullivan Arena.

Box Score

Green and linemate Brian Cameron, who had a goal and two assists, each had three-point nights for Saint Anselm (8-7-2, 3-1-0 NE10), which improved to 16-0-0 all-time against Franklin Pierce (7-11-1, 2-6-0 NE10). Green has now scored five of his 10 career goals against the Ravens after he scored a hat trick at Franklin Pierce last season. The overtime game was the third in a row for the Hawks.

Saint Anselm trailed 2-1 after two periods but tied the game for the second time at 8:45 of the third period on Cameron's second goal of the season. Green led a transition rush into the offensive zone and dropped the puck back to a trailing Cameron, who found the top-right corner to make it 2-2.

In the extra session, Green circled with the puck in the right corner, worked his way to the front of the net and slid a backhand through the legs of Tom McGuckin and in for the game-winning goal. The goal was the sophomore's third of the season, all coming in the last two games, with Cameron earning his second assist of the night.

Saint Anselm outshot Franklin Pierce 25-6 in the opening period but the Ravens got the only goal from James Morrissey 3:52 in to lead 1-0 after one. Morrissey took advantage of a slip in the Hawks' defense and fired a shot that Shane Joyce got a piece of but couldn't keep out for his fourth of the year.

The visitors continued to hold the 1-0 lead until Green scored for the second-straight game to knot the score at 1-1 at 9:14 of the second. Cameron received a pass from Brendon Kerrigan, skated into the zone and dropped it back to Green, who fired into the top corner to bring the Hawks even at 1-1.

The tie did not last long, as the Ravens went back ahead a little over three minutes later. Evan Marek tipped in a Nate Indelicato shot from the right point to give Franklin Pierce its second one-goal lead of the game at 12:39 of the second. Saint Anselm almost got even again before the period was over, as CJ Blaszka found Jon Pallotta on the back door but McGuckin slid across to make the save with 11.7 seconds left in the second, leaving Franklin Pierce up 2-1 after two.

Saint Anselm peppered McGuckin with 59 shots in the game but the Ravens' netminder made 56 saves, one shy of the program record, to keep the visitors in the game. Joyce had 12 saves for the Hawks to pick up win number seven on the season.

The Hawks travel to Saint Michael's on Friday, Jan. 20 for another NE10 game. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
