MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jess Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes each won their singles matches and paired up for a doubles win to power the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over visiting Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday at Saint Anselm Outdoor Courts.

Perkins and Hughes got Saint Anselm (1-0) off to a good start in doubles by rolling to an 8-1 win over Tiffany Hamdan and Salome Darsalia at No. 2 doubles. Meghan Golden and Tess Malerbi made it 2-0 with a narrow 8-6 triumph over Natalia Cardona and Marousia Bosch at the top spot, before Roberts Wesleyan (0-1) got a win in a competitive match at third doubles.
In singles, Perkins did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top of the lineup and Golden picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win at the third spot, leaving the Hawks up 4-2 after Hamdan won at No. 2 singles for the Redhawks.
Hughes provided the clinching fifth point by virtue of a 6-2, 6-2 win at fourth singles and fellow freshman Caroline Templer also recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory at fifth singles for Saint Anselm.
The Hawks open Northeast-10 play at Saint Michael's on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
