#7 Field Hockey makes it eight-straight, edges Assumption 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team improved to 8-1 and picked up their eighth-straight win with a 1-0 victory over Assumption College on Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H.

Box Score

The Hawks improve to 3-0 in the NE-10, while dropping the Greyhounds to 4-4 and 2-2 in league games. Saint Anselm returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to top-ranked LIU Post for a 12 p.m. matchup with the #1 team in the nation.

In a fairly balanced game, the Hawks held a slight 8-7 edge in shots in the game while also attempting eight penalty corners to five for the Greyhounds.

Assumption controlled the action early as they attempted the first three shots of the game, but the Hawks' Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) was up to the task as she stopped both shots she faced that were on target.

Saint Anselm's best chance of the half came in the 13th minute when Rose Mooney (North Attleborough, Mass.) played a ball into the circle that found the stick of Allia Connolly (Westford, Mass.). Connolly put a shot on net, but Assumption's Sarah Bodzinski was there for the kick save.

The game entered the half tied at 0-0, but that would change in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza as the Hawks earned back-to-back penalty corner chances. On the second, Erin Collins (Auburn, Mass.) played a ball to the top of the circle to Rose Mooney. Mooney fired a shot on net, and Allia Connolly was able to get a stick on it to redirect it into the back of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Assumption had a chance in the 51st minute when Allison Sheahan gained possession in the circle. Her first attempt was blocked down by Sears, and the senior kicked Sheahan's second shot out of the circle to preserve the one goal advantage.

The Hawks kept up the pressure on offense, never allowing Assumption to put any offense together over the final 15 minutes of play, to hang on for the 1-0 win.

Sears made five saves on the night to earn her eighth victory and second shutout of the year. Sarah Bodzinski made a pair of stops for the Greyhounds in the defeat.
