BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The #7-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to #1 LIU Post on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Brookville, N.Y.

The Hawks had their eight game winning-streak snapped to drop to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the NE-10. Saint Anselm returns to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Bentley University for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Falcons.
LIU Post remains perfect this season, moving to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in conference matches.
The Pioneers struck first just over 10 minutes into the first period as Grace Illian slammed home a rebound off a shot from Alyssa Lopresti to give LIU Post an early 1-0 advantage. The home team nearly took a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute of action, but Mia Vecchione was there for the defensive save to keep it a one-goal game headed into the half.
Saint Anselm knotted the game early in the second stanza as Erin Collins tallied her second goal of the season, putting home a rebound off a shot from Vecchione to make it a 1-1 game less than eight minutes into the second period.
LIU Post controlled the action over the final 30 minutes of action, holding a 3-1 edge in shots, but the Hawks defense stood their ground, keeping the top team in the nation off the board and forcing the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, Katherine Sears was tested early, but made a save, and the Hawks were able to reverse fields. Emma Kincaid had an attempt inside the circle, but her shot sailed wide of its mark.
On the restart, LIU Post moved the ball quickly up field and Emily Miller made two defenders miss. She played a ball to the opposite post where Kaycee Zelkovsky was wide open for the tap-in goal that gave the Pioneers a 2-1 victory.
LIU Post held a 16-8 advantage in shots in the game and also attempted 11 penalty corners to seven for the visitors. Katherine Sears suffered only her second setback of the year despite making 10 saves. Ericka Parks made five stops in goal for the Pioneers, improving to 8-0.
