MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team received three goals from freshman forward Hannah Friend (North Easton, Mass.) as the No. 8-ranked Hawks defeated visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in Manchester, N.H.

Friend scored the eventual game-winner in the ninth minute of action as she poked home a goal past the Spartans' Jessica Stewart to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The score would stay that way through the half despite Saint Anselm holding a 14-0 edge in shots in the period.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead when Rose Mooney (North Attleborough, Mass.) fired a pass through the circle that found Friend on the back post for an easy tally. The freshman completed the hat trick five minutes later as she tipped home a blast off the stick of Allia Connolly (Westford, Mass.) to put Saint Anselm on top 3-0.
Abby Walker (Scarborough, Maine) scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute as she spun a back-handed shot through the legs of Stewart to give the game its final score of 4-0.
The Hawks dominated St. Thomas Aquinas as the ball remained in Spartan territory for most of the night. Saint Anselm held a 26-0 edge in shots in the game and attempted all 16 corners in the game.
Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) improved to 7-1 on the year, earning the win while playing 52:21 in net. Sarah Bentley (Acton, Mass.) played the final 17:39 and did not face any shots.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Assumption College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
