Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Greyhounds down women's tennis despite another Perkins win

MANCHESTER, N.H. – For the fifth consecutive match, Jess Perkins did not drop a game at No. 1 singles but the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team went down 6-3 to visiting Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference play on Sunday afternoon at the Carr Center.

Box Score

Perkins extended her run of 6-0, 6-0 victories to five matches to start the season against Cassie Burbine at the top spot for Saint Anselm (2-3, 1-3 NE-10), meaning she has now won 60-straight games in singles. However, Assumption (4-1, 3-1 NE-10) earned two doubles points and recorded wins at the bottom four singles spots to secure the win.

In doubles, Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes ran their winning streak to five matches and moved to 4-0 in the NE-10 with an 8-4 victory over Paige Benoit and Maggie Holland at No. 2 doubles. Paired with her singles win, the doubles victory means Perkins is a combined 10-0 this year in singles and doubles.

In addition to Perkins' convincing win, Tess Malerbi gave the Hawks a point by virtue of a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win against Hannah Riley at the second singles spot. The Greyhounds earned straight-set victories at the final four singles spots to overcome Saint Anselm's wins at the top of the lineup.

Four of Saint Anselm's five matches this season have been decided by 6-3 scorelines. The one exception was a 6-2 win over Franklin Pierce on Sept. 10 after the final singles match went unfinished due to rain with the team result already determined.

The Hawks host Merrimack on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. at South Tennis Courts.
