Women's Lacrosse doubled up by #18 Bentley, 14-7

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm College dropped a 14-7 decision to #18 Bentley University on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H.

With the setback, the Hawks drop to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the NE-10, while the Falcons improve to 3-5 and 1-3 in conference play.

Erin Marshall (Woburn, Mass.) and Erica Mattila (Westford, Mass.) each recorded hat-tricks for Saint Anselm, with Caitlyn Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) rounding out the scoring with her 24th goal of the season. Bebe Butts (Windham, Maine) recorded a pair of assists for the Hawks in the setback.

Villareal and Jamie Traverse (Medford, Mass.) grabbed two draw controls apiece, while Erin Marshall scooped up a team-best three groundballs. Jane Bunn (St. Johns, Fla.) suffered the setback in goal while making three saves, with Zoie Cavotta (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) stopping a pair of shots over the final 9:38 of action.

Bentley's Erin O'Connor scored four goals to lead the Falcons and the duo of Hannah Lindgren and Meredith Hart each recorded hat-tricks. Kathleen Gillespie added a pair of tallies, while Taylor Lunden and Kelsey Howard had a goal and an assist apiece. Erin Woods led the Falcons defense with four groundballs and three draw controls. Lauren Ochs picked up the win, making 11 saves and grabbing four groundballs.

The Falcons scored the first two goals of the game before Erica Mattila made it a 2-1 game with 18:48 to play in the first half. Bentley scored three-straight times over the next 10 minutes, before Erin Marshall potted back-to-back goals to pull the Hawks to within two at 5-3; however, the Falcons scored the final three goals of the period to take an 8-3 lead into the break.

The two teams traded tallies to open the second half as Mattila matched scores from Erin O'Connor and Hannah Lindgren to make it a 10-5 deficit with 17:24 remaining. Bentley eventually scored four-straight times over a five minute stretch to take control at 14-5. The Hawks scored the final two goals of the game off the sticks of Marshall and Villareal to give the game its final score, 14-7.

Saint Anselm held a 25-23 advantage in shots on the day, while also recording fewer turnovers (13-15) and edging the Falcons in groundballs (19-17). Bentley was a perfect 18-for-18 on clear attempts while the Hawks went 13-for-16 in the game.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Southern Connecticut State University in a 3:00 p.m. game where Saint Anselm will hold its annual Teal the Field event.
