Eckerd downs Baseball in non-league matchup

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped an 18-8 decision to Eckerd College on Tuesday night in non-conference action in Saint Petersburg, Fla. The Hawks fall to 1-6 with the setback, while the Tritons improve to 6-4.

Paul Trabucco (Salem, N.H.) went 1-for-4 with a two-run triple, while John Marculitis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had a pair of hits to go with two RBI and a run scored. Ken Morrisino (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, with Jason Turner (Milton, Mass.) going 1-for-1 with a two run single in his only plate appearance. Nick Bragole (Newburyport, Mass.) scored a pair of runs for the Hawks.

Bragole tied the game at 1-1 as he came home from third on a balk, and Trabucco followed with his two-run triple to give Saint Anselm the 3-1 advantage. The Tritons responded with five runs in the bottom of the third, three runs in the fourth, and seven runs in the fifth to pull away for a 16-3 lead.

Saint Anselm got a pair of runs back in the top of the sixth when Bragole scored on a passed ball and Marculitis drove in Allan McQuarrie (Salem, N.H.) with an RBI single to left field to make it a 16-5 game. Marculitis struck again in the eighth as he knocked in Turner with an RBI single down the right field line and Jason Turner plated two runs of his own in the top of the ninth with a single to center that scored Vincent Fortini (Southwick, Mass.) and Ken Morrisino.

It was a tough night for the Hawks on the mound as the staff combined to give up 20 hits and 15 earned runs. John Lavoie (Medford, Mass.) suffered the setback, pitching the first 3.2 innings and giving up nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits.

After an off-day tomorrow, the Hawks will try and snap five game skid when they take on Rollins College at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
