Men's Basketball falls to Stonehill, 97-86

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Tim Guers tallied a team-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, but it was not enough as the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team fell 97-86 to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of the 2016 NCAA East Regional Final.

The loss drops the Hawks to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in the Northeast-10, while Stonehill improves to 3-1, 1-1 in the NE-10.

Leading by one, 22-21 midway through the game's opening half, the Skyhawks used a 16-4 run to take an 11 point lead with 5:26 remaining in the opening stanza.

The Hawks cut the deficit to five thanks to a Cody Ball bucket and free throw, but the visiting Skyhawks again pulled away, taking a 10-point advantage into the halftime locker room.

In the second half, the Hawks pulled to as close as 10, 90-80, with just under two minutes remaining, but Stonehill held on for the 11-point victory.

The Hawks shot 46.5 percent from the floor on the evening (33-71) while Stonehill was 38-62 (.613). The Skyhawks also held a 39-30 edge on the glass while Saint Anselm forced 14 turnovers.

Harrison Taggart finished the afternoon one rebound shy of a double-double, chipping in 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Cody Ball added 15 points and seven rebounds to round out the trio of Hawks that tallied double figure scoring.

Four Stonehill players scored in double figures, led by 24 from Ryan Logan.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a 7:30 p.m. match-up at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.
