MANCHESTER, N.H. – Kendra Bonczar and Nicole Rust each had a goal and two assists on Senior Day as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team wrapped up its season in style with a 6-1 victory over New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field.
Box Score
The six goals for Saint Anselm (6-11-1, 4-9-1 NE-10) were scored by six different players and were the team's most since a 6-2 victory at Pace on Oct. 11, 2008. Prior to the game, the Hawks had lost the last five meetings with New Haven (5-12-1, 2-11-1 NE-10).
In addition to the big days from Bonczar and Rust, Kiley Larocque and Roshelle Morrison each scored their first-collegiate goals for the Hawks. Corey Murray and Caly Farina also found the back of the net, while Larocque, Andrea Luongo and Alexis Elowitch had assists.
It did not take long for Saint Anselm to open the scoring, as Rust got the Hawks on the board in the fifth minute. Bonczar cut the ball back from near the right end line to Larocque who squared the ball to Rust for an easy tap in and her first goal of the season.
The Hawks doubled their lead in the 35th minute when Morrison beat the New Haven offside trap by running onto a ball through the middle frmo Gabrielle Toro and finished into the lower-right corner of the net.
Both teams at eight shots in the first half but Saint Anselm outshot New Haven 13-4 after the break on its way to four goals. Larocque made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute by nodding in a Bonczar cross from the right wing at the back post.
A little over eight minutes later, Murray scored her team-high fifth goal of the season to stretch the lead to 4-0. Luongo picked out the run of Elowitch with a long ball from the back and Elowitch unselfishly squared the ball to Murray to pass into an open net. Luongo's assist was the first point of her Saint Anselm career.
After the Chargers got on the board on a Sarah Bosco penalty kick in the 70th minute, Bonczar grabbed a goal in the 79th minute, putting home a rebound after her own shot was saved after Rust played Bonczar in up the middle.
Farina capped the scoring by racing onto a Rust pass that split the New Haven defense and rounding the keeper in the 87th minute.
Cassie Quattropani earned her sixth win of the season by making five saves in net for the Hawks, while Deandra Nash took the loss for the Chargers despite stopping nine shots.
The game marked the end of the careers of Saint Anselm's seven seniors – Cassie Quattropani, Jillian Beatty, Kendra Bonczar, Nicole Rust, Andrea Luongo, Gabrielle Toro and Gina Vellucci. Collectively, the seven played in nearly 400 games for the Hawks and helped the team to 28 wins.
