NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Amanda Williams registered a match-high 14 kills while hitting .455 to lead the Saint Anselm College volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at Pelz Gymnasium.

Williams' 14 kills were two shy of her season-high from the night before as Saint Anselm (18-4, 8-1 NE-10) won its second Northeast-10 Conference match in as many nights. The win over Southern Connecticut (14-11, 4-5 NE-10) also keeps the Hawks in first place in the NE-10.
The victory was Saint Anselm's third in the last four meetings with Southern Connecticut and evened the all-time series at 10 wins apiece. It was also the Hawks' fourth-straight win, while the team's eight conference wins ties 2003 team (8-6) for the most in program history.
Katy Teets had nine kills and Brennah Gladwill added seven without an error to hit .368 for the Hawks, who hit .239 on the afternoon. Jewel Hays recorded 30 assists and CC Chrisom made a match-best 14 digs, while Williams had two solo blocks among her four total blocks.
Leanna Jadus led the Owls with 10 kills as the hosts hit just .146 in the match. Alexandria Jurgens contributed eight kills, 16 assists, six digs and three blocks assists for Southern Connecticut.
The Hawks got off to a quick start by winning the first four points of the match. After trailing by five early on, the Owls tied the match at 15-15 and were within one, 21-20, late on. However, Teets hammered back-to-back kills before a pair of attack errors by Southern Connecticut handed the set to the Hawks by a 25-20 margin.
Saint Anselm again established an early advantage in the second, using a 4-0 run to go ahead 9-4. Later, the Hawks went on another 4-0 surge to go up 17-9 and led by at least five the rest of the set. Teets gave Saint Anselm a 2-0 lead by finishing off set two with a kill.
Near the midway point of the third, the Owls won three-straight points to cut a 13-9 Saint Anselm lead to just one point. After the Hawks extended their lead to five, 17-12, the hosts won the next four to close back within a point. Leading 17-16, Saint Anselm won the next six and 8 of the last 11 points to wrap up the victory.
The Hawks open the month of November with a trip to Merrimack to face the Warriors on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
