COLCHESTER, Vt. – After dropping the first set, the Saint Anselm College volleyball team heated up over the next three to defeat Saint Michael's College in 19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 on Tuesday evening at Ross Sports Center.

Saint Michael's (3-8, 1-5, NE-10) held Saint Anselm (16-4, 6-1 NE-10) to an attack percentage of .019 in the first set but the Hawks hit .296 the rest of the way to capture the win. The win was Saint Anselm's fifth in the last six meetings with Saint Michael's.
Catherine McCarthy led three Hawks in double figures in kills by finishing with 13 kills and 15 digs for her second-straight double-double. Amanda Williams and Katy Teets each added 11 kills with Williams contributing five total blocks and Teets recording three aces. With her 11 kills, Teets moved up a spot to ninth in program history in career kills (672).
Jewel Hays tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 47 digs and 13 assists for the Hawks, who hit .212 for the match. CC Chrisom paced the defense with 28 digs, just one shy of her career-high 29 from a week ago. Gianna Bowman also made 12 digs for the Hawks, while Amanda Bickford pitched in seven kills.
Megan Priester registered a match-high 14 kills for Saint Michael's. Natalie Moore, the nation's leader in digs per set, posted 27 digs and Jordan Dean added 18 for the Purple Knights, who hit just .119 on the night.
In the first set, Saint Michael's used a 4-0 run to open up an 18-10 lead. Saint Anselm replied with a 5-2 run to keep in touch. With the Purple Knights closing in on the set up 23-16, the Hawks strung together three consecutive points before the hosts finished off the opener.
Teets had three kills and an ace in the first seven points of the second set to help the Hawks to a 5-2 lead. Saint Anselm gradually built up a 17-10 advantage but Saint Michael's rallied to get within three at 18-15. However, the Hawks regrouped and closed out the set as Teets had two more kills and an ace late in the set.
The Purple Knights led 13-10 midway through the third set only for the Hawks to win the next five points to take a lead they would not relinquish. Williams had a solo block and a block assist to break the 13-13 tie and Saint Anselm hit a match-high .333 in the third to go up two sets to one.
Three-straight attack errors by Saint Michael's helped Saint Anselm to an early 5-2 lead in the fourth. Later, a 5-1 run saw the Hawks extend their lead to 12-6. The Purple Knights clawed to within two, 13-11, but could get no closer as the Hawks outhit the hosts .256-.068 in the fourth.
