MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jess Perkins and Bridget Keefe were victorious at No. 1 and No. 6 singles as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team wrapped up its fall season with a 7-2 loss to Adelphi University on Saturday at South Tennis Courts.
Box Score
Perkins cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rebecca Fakas at the top spot, while Keefe rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win against Maria Bruzon Gutierrez for Saint Anselm (7-8, 5-7 NE-10). However, Adelphi (8-4, 8-4 NE-10) used a doubles sweep and four singles victories to come away with the win.
Keefe's win was her fourth in a row, while Perkins' was her third. Perkins moved to 10-1 in NE-10 play this season with one unfinished match to go after her match against SNHU's Abla Chadli on Friday was halted due to darkness while headed to a third set super tiebreaker.
The Panthers opened the match with a doubles sweep, claiming an 8-2 victory at the top spot and close victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes fell 8-6 at the second spot for just their second NE-10 setback of the season, while Keefe and Caroline Templer went down 8-5 at the third spot.
Adelphi got wins from Elizabeth Kallenberg, Karen Serina, Samantha Perri and Vanja Savic in the middle of singles lineup. Savic's 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Templer at No. 5 singles was the lone three-set match of the day.
Saint Anselm's 5-7 record in the NE-10 this fall matches last season's mark for the team's best NE-10 record since the 2011-12 team went 6-7. The Hawks will resume their season in the spring.
