PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Saint Anselm College outscored Pace University 23-8 in the third quarter to pull away for a 69-44 win in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night at the Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville, N.Y.
The Hawks (7-5, 4-4 NE-10) snapped a two game skid by shooting 45.9% (28-of-61) from the field while holding Pace to 15-of-62 (24.2%) shooting from the floor and outrebounding the Setters 50-32.
Ali Glennon (Bedford, N.H.) led all scorers with 14 points, while Candace Andrews (Boston, Mass.) added 13 points, five rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and a block. Emma Daly (Pearl River, N.Y.) scored a career-high nine points off the bench to go with four rebounds and a steal.
Raquel Johnson (Inglewood, Calif.) and Caitlyn Abela (North Easton, Mass.) scored eight points apiece with Abela grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
Kirsten Dodge led Pace with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Hawks opened the game on an 8-2 run before Pace answered with a 6-2 run of their own to make it a 10-8 game. Raquel Johnson sandwiched a pair of layups around a Candace Andrews layup to give Saint Anselm a 16-8 lead headed into the second quarter.
Erin Waters (Pawling, N.Y.) gave the Hawks a 27-10 lead with 4:53 remaining in the half, but the Setters hit back-to-back threes followed by a Gabriella Rubin jumper that forced a Saint Anselm timeout with the score 27-18. A personal 5-0 run by Glennon put the Hawks back on top 32-18, but Pace scored six of the final eight points of the period to trail only 34-24 headed into the break.
Early in the third quarter, a Dodge free throw cut the deficit to only 36-27. Saint Anselm answered with a 19-3 run over the next eight minutes of action to jump out to a 55-30 advantage that they would not relinquish, building leads in excess of 31 points the rest of the game as the Hawks cruised to the 69-44 victory.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 1:30 p.m.
