#8 Field Hockey's Undefeated Run Comes to an End at Hands of Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) made five saves, but it wound up being one too little as the eighth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team lost to Assumption College, 1-0, Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 action at Multi-Sport Stadium for its first blemish of 2015.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Amanda Frank put the Greyhounds on the board early in the 17th minute as she scored from just inside the circle off a corner to make it 1-0.
  • The contest stayed that way into the second half where the Hawks had a great opportunity to gain the equalizer, but Assumption goalkeeper Bridget Boyle was able to stop a penalty stroke from senior Meagan Halligan (No. Branford, Conn.) in the 47th minute to preserve the one-goal lead.
  • Saint Anselm had another chance late in the 53rd minute on a bid by sophomore Leika Scott (Falmouth, Maine), but Allison Juneau, who assisted Frank's goal, made a big defensive save for the hosts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Boyle turned away eight shots for Assumption.
  • Saint Anselm held a 13-12 edge in shots, while Assumption owned an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners, including 8-3 in the second stanza.

NOTES

  • Saint Anselm moved up to eighth in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Coaches Poll that was released Tuesday morning. It is the highest ranking ever for the Hawks, who entered the poll last week at No. 9.

UP NEXT

  • The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m. when they play host to Long Island University-LIU Post on Homecoming at Grappone Stadium.
  • Saint Anselm is home for their first five games of the season and eight of their first 10.
