MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Emma Kincaid (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Colleen Sears (Danvers, Mass.) each scored goals to power the eighth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team to a 2-0 victory against Long Island University-LIU Post on Saturday evening at Grappone Stadium.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Kincaid tied Sears for the team lead with her fourth goal of the season before Sears later snapped the tie with her fifth of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kincaid broke a 0-0 draw in the 22nd minute as her initial bid on a ball sent in by classmate Allia Connolly (Westford, Mass.) coincided with the ball meeting the pads of goalkeeper Ericka Parks, but with Parks down, Kincaid reversed her stick and swept it into the right side of the cage.
- The contest remained a 1-0 affair until late in the 67th minute when Sears dribbled the ball along the endline, sticking with the play even when the ball looked to be going out-of-bounds, and then stuffing it past Parks to lend the Hawks some breathing room with just 3:05 on the clock.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) recorded her first shutout of 2015 by making three saves. Parks turned away four shots.
- LIU Post held advantages in both shots (8-7) and penalty corners (8-3).
NOTES
- The Hawks, who extend their program record-best start to 7-1, are now off their best NE-10 start in school history through four games at 3-1.
UP NEXT
- The Hawks are right back at it Sunday, Oct. 4 (2 p.m.) when they take a break from Northeast-10 play to host Mercy College at Grappone.
