Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Records First 2-0 NE-10 Start with Sweep of Setters

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Katy Teets (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tallied 11 kills to lead the Saint Anselm College volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 sweep over Pace University Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center, improving to 2-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play for the first time in school history.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Teets recorded double-digit kills for the second straight match and for the third time in the past four matches. She also added seven digs and an ace Saturday afternoon.
• Junior Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) added seven kills.
• Senior Lauren Oxley (Bristow, Va.) and freshman Sarah Lowery (Chicago, Ill.) each tallied six kills on a combined .440 hitting percentage. Oxley alone hit an errorless .545 on the afternoon. Sophomore Amanda Williams (North Andover, Mass.) also added six kills and a block.
• Junior CC Chrisom (Dover, N.H.) led Saint Anselm defensively, recording 12 digs and a pair of service aces.
• Freshman Jewel Hays (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) matched Chrisom with two aces, added six digs and tallied a match-high 32 assists.
• Pace's Rebecca Italiano recorded a match-high 18 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Saint Anselm jumped out to an 8-3 lead on a handful of aces, kills and Pace errors. The Hawks would jump to their largest lead at 24-13 off an Oxley putaway, but three straight Setter points before a Teets kill would seal a nine-point win in set one.
• An Oxley kill highlighted a 6-2 run for the Hawks before Pace responded with a run of its own to take the lead in set two, 16-15. Three straight Lowery kills retook the lead Saint Anselm would never give up, running off seven of the final 10 points culminated by a kill from freshman Kate Peters (Prescott, Ariz.).
• The two teams battled through much of the third set, with Saint Anselm clinging to a slim lead at 18-17. Finally, kills from freshman Julia Keeler (Chicago, Ill.), Oxley, Williams and Lowery handed the Hawks match point. Finally, a Gladwill service ace capped of a four-point run as Saint Anselm earned the sweep.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

• Saint Anselm outhit Pace .304 to .182 on the day, recording 45 kills to the Setters' 29.
• Seven different Hawks recorded an ace, led by two from Chrisom, Hays and sophomore Amanda Bickford (Salem, N.H.).

NOTES

• Saint Anselm, which had won just one conference opener prior to this season, moves to 2-0 in league play for the first time in program history with Saturday's sweep.
• While still very early in the NE-10 season, Saint Anselm is one of just four unbeaten teams remaining through the first two weeks of the league slate.
• The Hawks also chip away at a hefty all-time series deficit, improving to 5-15 against the Setters.
• Saint Anselm finishes out its September schedule with a 6-5 record overall.

UP NEXT

• The Hawks will look to make it three in a row with a tough matchup next Saturday, playing just its second home match of the year as it welcomes American International College to Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in an 11 a.m. matinee.
