Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Millet, Gillies Send Women's Soccer Past Dolphins, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seniors Callie Millet (Lancaster, Mass.) and Rachel Gillies (Auburn, Mass.) each scored in unassisted fashion as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team battled to a 2-1 victory against Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne College Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Gillies scored her third goal of the season and third in as many games, upping her season tally to a team-high eight points.
• Millet scored her first goal of the year and sixth of her career. She also becomes the sixth different Hawk to score a goal and ninth player to earn a point this season.
• Junior goalkeeper Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) improved to 3-3-1 on the year, collecting one save.
• Le Moyne's Alexis Muroco scored the Dolphins' goal—her first of the season.
• Dolphin goalkeeper Tori Corsaro stopped a game-high five shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After not much action over the first 20 minutes of the game, Gillies strolled up to a free kick just outside the box and booted a low spinner toward the right post. Corsaro made the initial save, but the ball skipped over her left shoulder and trickled in to break the scoreless tie.
• Saint Rose wasted no time formulating a counter attack, as Muraco put away a bouncing ball in traffic just 50 seconds later off an assist from Kristen Colegrove.
• Saint Anselm broke the halftime tie on a similar play to Saint Rose's goal, as Millet sent home a cross-box crack into the right corner after a scrum out front.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

• The Hawks, who won most of the 50-50 balls on the afternoon, outshot Le Moyne 21-5, including a 7-2 advantage in on-target attempts.
• Saint Anselm also earned seven corners—five coming in the second half alone.

NOTES

• Saint Anselm added to its recent dominance against Le Moyne, improving to 9-2-3 against the Dolphins since 2003.
• The Hawks also improve to 12-7-3 in the all-time series.
• For the second time in three seasons, Saint Anselm started its NE-10 slate at 3-2.

UP NEXT

• Saint Anselm finishes up a home-heavy September Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. matchup against NE-10 foe Saint Michael's College. The Hawks will then take to the road for four straight games away from Melucci Field, starting with an important matchup against Pace University Saturday at noon.
