WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's stranglehold on the all-time series remained intact Thursday night as the Saint Anselm College volleyball team was swept at the Falcons' Dana Center in a final preseason non-conference matchup, 25-14, 25-17, 25-23.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) led Saint Anselm with eight kills Thursday evening, adding just two errors on .400 hitting.
• Senior Lauren Oxley also hit .400 on the night with an errorless four kills.
• Freshman Sarah Lowery (Chicago, Ill.) added six kills for the Hawks.
• Freshman Jewel Hays (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) tallied 14 assists and six digs.
• Junior CC Chrisom (Dover, N.H.) recorded 16 digs for the Hawks, tying Bentley's Jessica Segal for match-high honors.
• Lowery and sophomore Danielle Isbell (Poway, Calif.) each added nine digs.
• Bentley's Stephanie Metzger recorded a match-high 10 kills—the only player on either team to record double-digit kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bentley held a slim 6-5 lead early in the opening set before reeling off eight straight points to all but seal up the opening frame, 25-14.
• Saint Anselm jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in set two off a kill from Gladwill and a setter dump by Hays. However, the Falcons promptly responded with a six-point run and added another five-point streak to cruise to the second set victory, 25-17.
• The third set was much closer for the Hawks, who chipped away at a 16-12 deficit to take a 22-21 lead. A pair of Falcon kills and a pair of Saint Anselm errors handed Bentley match point, and a kill by Metzger finally secured the hard-fought sweep for the hosts.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• Neither team hit particularly efficient, as Bentley recorded a .083 hitting percentage compared to .045 for the Hawks. Saint Anselm hit negative through the first two sets with just 17 kills and 18 errors, before cleaning it up with a nine kills and just three errors on 34 swings in the third set.
• Bentley recorded nine aces against Saint Anselm, the most for a Hawks opponent this season.
• The Hawks were outdug 56-47 and outblocked 6-2 Thursday night.
NOTES
• Saint Anselm drops to 4-5 overall, while Bentley improves to 5-4.
• The Hawks fall to 0-28 all-time against Bentley.
• Saint Anselm and Bentley will rehash their rivalry in Northeast-10 Conference play later this season, with the Hawks hosting a 7 p.m. matchup on Tuesday, October 13.

• Saint Anselm will finish off a streak of nine of its first 10 matches away from Stoutenburgh Gymnasium over the next two weeks, opening Northeast-10 Conference play at Stonehill College Saturday at 3 p.m. The Hawks will then travel to Pleasantville, N.Y., to take on Pace University on Saturday, September 26 in a 1 p.m. start time.
