EASTON, Mass. – Sophomore Joseph Levasseur (Rowley, Mass.) submitted a quality start, but the Saint Anselm College baseball team closed out its three-game weekend set at Stonehill College with a 5-0 loss Sunday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.
The Hawks sink to 10-20 on the season, including 7-10 in Northeast-10 play and 4-10 in the Northeast Division. The Skyhawks improve to 23-9-1, 11-5 NE-10, 10-4 NE-10 NE.
Stonehill jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Chris Hoyt sent a two-out RBI single back up the middle and then later scored on an error.
The Hawks threatened in the third with two in scoring position and less than two outs, but Stonehill cut down a run at the plate to thwart the bid. Saint Anselm loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but a strikeout ended the inning. The Hawks left two more on in the fifth to keep it 2-0.
The game stayed that way into the seventh when Dan Fratus' run-scoring double to left-center made it 3-0. The Skyhawks added two more in the eighth on an RBI single by Steve Lee, who later came around to score on a wild pitch.
Levasseur (2-2) allowed three runs – two earned – on eight hits, while striking out five and walking one in 7.0 innings. Junior Tyler Buck (Franklin, Mass.) was charged with two runs on one hit in 0.1 innings, while classmate Seve Llanio (Glen Arm, Md.) tossed 0.2 shutout innings, giving up one hit.
