Men's Tennis Thumps American International, 8-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Adam Weinstein (Vernon Rockville, Conn.) was one of four Hawks to capture both of their matches as the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory against American International College on Wednesday afternoon at Van Horn Park.

The Hawks improve to 2-8 on the season, including 2-7 in Northeast-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets sink to 0-9, 0-7 NE-10. The 8-1 win is the largest for the Hawks since March 15, 2013 when they beat Salem State University by the same score.

Weinstein teamed with fellow freshman Eric Howes (Shawnee, Kan.) for an 8-4 victory against James Worrall and Alfie Cleave at No. 1 doubles and then doubled up Cleave, 8-4, at No. 2 singles.

Freshmen Kyle Harris (No. Reading, Mass.) and Brian Kavanagh (Wilbraham, Mass.) breezed to an 8-0 No. 2 doubles triumph against Tim Zoma and Jason Popek and then took care of them separately in singles play. Harris was an 8-2 winner versus Zoma at No. 3 singles, while Kavanagh replicated the doubles score with an 8-0 blanking of Popek at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Alex Pearson (Kennebunk, Maine) crafted a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Johno May at No. 5 singles, while he and classmate Robert Patenaude (Augusta, Maine) won by default at No. 3 doubles. Freshman Benji Page (Concord, Mass.) also won be default at No. 6 singles.

The Hawks wrap up their season Saturday, April 18 at noon when they play host to Franklin Pierce University at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
