Saint Rose Breaks Out in 16-3 Victory Against Baseball

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Senior Joe Morin (Salem, N.H.) drove in a pair of runs, but the Saint Anselm College baseball team suffered a 16-3 defeat against the College of Saint Rose at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium.

The Hawks drop to 2-8, while the Golden Knights up their record to 2-7.

Saint Rose grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to left from Zac Bellinger. The Hawks tied it in the fourth when freshman John Marculitis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) stroked a two-out double to right and then scored on a single to right by classmate Shaine Carpenter (Florham Park, N.J.).

The Golden Knights erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double to left from Ryan Hooker and run-scoring singles from Alec Caprarella and Derek Reed. Saint Rose added one in the fifth on Hooker's sacrifice fly to left and then broke it open with three runs in the sixth. Bellinger scored on a balk before an RBI single from Lukas Nethaway and a sac fly by Patrick Griffin made it 10-1.

Caprarella's two-run single to center underscored a six-run eighth that made it 16-1 before a two-run single to right from Morin scored junior Ken Morrisino (E. Longmeadow, Mass.), who reached on a fielder's choice, and freshman Max Wadington (Burlington, Conn.), who got aboard via a double to right.

Wadington was 2-for-5 with a run, while Carpenter went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Senior Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I.; two walks) and sophomore Jon McQuarrie (Salem, N.H.; walk) were both 1-for-3, with Morin (two RBI) and Marculitis (run) both going 1-for-4.

Sophomore Cameron Latta (Lowell, Mass.) dropped to 0-1 on the season as he went the first 3.1 innings and relinquished six runs on eight hits and two walks. Freshman Andy Williams (Merrimack, N.H.) allowed a run on three walks in 1.2 frames. Classmate Luke Nerney (Guilford, Conn.) was charged with three runs on four hits, while striking out one in 2.0 innings. Junior Terrence Walsh (Milton, Mass.) was tagged for three runs on three walks and did not record an out. Sophomore Autrey Gates (Pembroke, Mass.) allowed three runs on four hits in 1.0 innings.

Joe Pokrentowski went 6.1 innings for Saint Rose, allowing just one run on five hits, while striking out six and walking three.
