WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven scored two goals just over one minute apart early in the second half to knock off the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team 2-0 Saturday night at Kayo Field in West Haven, Conn.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman Corey Murray (Scituate, Mass.) tallied two shots on goal and sophomore Alexis Elowitch (Portland, Maine) took four total shots to lead the Hawks' offensive effort.
• Freshman Elise Bouchard (Huntingtown, Md.) collected a pair of saves, but took her first losing decision of her collegiate career Saturday.
• Sophomore Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) added a pair of saves playing all 45 minutes of the first half.
For the Chargers…
• Marisa Garcia and Sierra Stein netted New Haven's goals, with Garcia picking up an assist on Stein's goal.
• Goalkeeper Deandra Nash improved to 8-5-3 overall with seven total saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Chargers struck quick early in the second half, as Garcia scored her 11th season goal at the 57:44 mark. Stein then made it 2-0 just 1:20 seconds later, receiving a flick pass from Garcia and beating Bouchard.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• As it has multiple times this season, Saint Anselm outshot its opponent 19-10, despite the losing decision.
• The Hawks also earned six corner attempts while holding the Chargers cornerless.
NOTES
• Saint Anselm's winless streak against New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference play ballooned to eight games, falling to 0-7-1 in league contests. The Hawks also fell to 6-9-2 overall in the all-time series.
• The Hawks end the season with six straight losses, getting outscored 15-1 over its final four games combined.
