Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#6 Field Hockey Records Third Straight Shutout with 4-0 Win Against Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Allia Connolly (Westford, Mass.) scored a goal and handed out a pair of assists to lead the sixth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team to a 4-0 victory against Bentley University on Wednesday evening at Grappone Stadium.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Connolly matched her season high in points as she dished the career-best two helpers.
  • Senior Meagan Halligan (No. Branford, Conn.) snapped a four-game pointless streak with a goal and an assist.
  • Senior Taylor Coons (Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.) and sophomore Emma Kincaid (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) also added goals.
  • Junior goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) made six saves, including five in the second half, for her second shutout of the season – all coming in the last three contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Connolly put the Hawks on the board with 2:03 on the clock in the first half when she batted the ball into the left side of the cage following a cross from the right that made it through traffic in front off the stick of Halligan.
  • Coons doubled the lead exactly five minutes later – 2:57 into the second half – when she received a centering feed from Connolly and scooped it just inside the right post.
  • Connolly then returned the favor to Halligan in the 46th minute as she sent a quick pass to her left that Halligan hammered home at the left post to make it 3-0.
  • Kincaid capped the scoring late in the 60th minute with an absolute laser from the top of the circle.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Bentley goalkeeper Evelyn Schaedel made three saves.
  • Saint Anselm outshot Bentley, 13-8, including 8-2 in the first half. The Hawks also held an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners, including 4-0 in the opening stanza.

NOTES

  • Saint Anselm extends its program-record best start to 9-1, including 4-1 in Northeast-10 play, and matches the 2007 squad for most wins in school history.
  • The Hawks defeat Bentley for the third time in 22 all-time meetings, with all three victories coming in the most recent six meetings.
  • Saint Anselm, which has now allowed just three total goals in its last six contests dating back to Sept. 19 and spanning 420:00, posts its third straight shutout and has not given up a goal in three October tilts. The Hawks have not allowed a goal over the last 263:46, while Sears owns a personal shutout streak of 233:55.
  • Kincaid has now scored a goal in three straight games and is tied with senior Colleen Sears (Danvers, Mass.) for the team lead in both goals (6) and points (13). Halligan (12) and Connolly (11) rank third and fourth, respectively, in points.
