GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Lena Pollich scored a pair of goals as Adelphi University knocked off the sixth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adelphi drew first blood at the 17:22 mark of the opening half as Lena Pollich scored through traffic off an assist from Molly Cuevas, beating junior goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) to her left.
- Pollich struck again in the 57th minute off a feed from Emily Power to double the lead to 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sears made two saves, while Adelphi goalkeeper Amanda Gargiulo turned away three shots in the shutout effort.
- Adelphi outshot Saint Anselm, 12-5, including 6-1 in the second stanza. The Panthers also held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners, including 5-1 in the first half.
NOTES
- The loss dropped Saint Anselm (4-2 NE-10) to sixth place in the Northeast-10 standings, while Adelphi (5-1 NE-10) moves into a tie for second place.
UP NEXT
- The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. when they take on Stonehill College.
