Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime Thriller to Adelphi, 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team put up on of its best defensive efforts of the season, but a Panther goal scored in the fourth minute of overtime handed visiting Adelphi University a 1-0 victory over the Hawks Saturday evening at Melucci Field.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Junior Stephen McLeod (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded six saves on the afternoon
• Senior Colin Mahoney (Peabody, Mass.) managed Saint Anselm's lone shot on-goal coming in the 57th minute.

For the Panthers…

• Toni Soler scored the game-winner off an assist from Caelan Huebner.
• Goalkeeper Sergio Reyes collected his ninth win of the year with one save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Soler collected Hueber's cross from the left flank just outside the 12, then rocketed the game-winner high and into the left netting to send the Panther side to victory.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

• Adelphi dominated much of the game statistically, including owning an 18-3 shot advantage and a 7-1 edge on corners.

NOTES

• It was just the third all-time meeting between the two teams, with Adelphi improving to 2-1 in the series.
• Adelphi moves into second place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings with Saturday's win, while Saint Anselm is still left searching for its first league victory this season.

UP NEXT

• Saint Anselm will head to North Andover, Mass., for a matchup with Merrimack College Tuesday evening before finishing up its season Friday afternoon against Stonehill College. The 2 p.m. showdown with the Skyhawks will also be Senior Day, as the men's team will recognize its six-member senior class.
