MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) made 10 saves and sophomore Katie Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist as the Saint Anselm College field hockey team posted a 3-0 victory against Saint Michael's College on Wednesday at Grappone Stadium.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Sears turned away a season high in shots as she piled up the most saves she has made since stopping 14 shots against Stonehill on Nov. 4, 2014.
- Neyland's three points were her first since Oct. 4, while junior Rose Mooney (No. Attleborough, Mass.) added two helpers for her first points since Sept. 19.
- Sophomore Emma Kincaid (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) potted her team-leading ninth goal of the season, while classmate Erin Collins (Auburn, Mass.) also added a strike.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kincaid, making her first start of the season, put the Hawks on the board just 2:39 into the contest as she batted in a ball at the left post following a cross from Mooney on the right.
- Saint Anselm doubled its lead just under five minutes later as another feed from the right side – this one from Neyland – went off the goalkeeper's pads and into the back of the cage. Mooney was credited with an assist on the play.
- Neyland helped make it 3-0 in the 20th minute when she received the insert off a penalty corner and sent a bouncing drive from the top of the circle that found the stick of Collins – the inserter – in deep at the left post where she finished at a tough angle.
- Sears made one of her huge nine first-half saves with 5:46 to play in the first half as she used the blocker to swat away a penalty stroke attempt by Megan Deschaine.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Saint Michael's goalkeeper Abigail Bowie made eight saves in the loss.
- Shots were even at 13 apiece as Saint Michael's outshot Saint Anselm, 12-8, in the opening stanza. The Purple Knights also held an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.
