ALBANY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team faced quite the offensive onslaught Tuesday evening, as the 17th-ranked College of Saint Rose scorched the Hawks for a 6-0 victory at Sullivan Field in upstate New York.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Saint Anselm's goalkeeping tandem of junior Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Elise Bouchard (Huntingtown, Md.) each collected four saves while each keeping one half Tuesday. The Hawks also picked up a team save for nine total on the night.
For the Golden Knights…
• Six different Saint Rose players scored a goal while Morgan Burchhart distributed three assists on the evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After taking the initial momentum and producing a shot by Alexis Elowitch (Portland, Maine)—the Hawks' lone shot on goal of the entire game—Saint Anselm found itself playing plenty of defense in the first half.
• Saint Rose's Danae Kaldaridou opened the scoring with a masterful header off the Golden Knights' first corner entry by Morgan Burchhart at the 7:12 mark.
•Saint Rose then added its second goal four minutes later as Nicole Shively collected a rebound off a Burchhart strike that hit the post to put the hosts up 2-0.
• Gianna Smith then drove home another rebound from inside the 12-yard box to surge the Golden Knights to a three-goal lead over the first 17 minutes of the game.
• Kristin Carr and Michaela Phillips added goals in the 35th and 39th minutes respectively to wrap up quite a first-half statement.
• Silvana Giovannone stuffed home a loose ball in front of the Saint Anselm goal in the 61st minute of the second half to cap off a torrid offensive showcase Tuesday.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• Saint Rose outshot the Hawks 27-4, including a 15-1 advantage in on-target attempts.
• The Golden Knights accrued five corner kicks while holding the Hawks without a corner entry.
NOTES
• The win acts as a bit of redemption from last year's matchup, where Saint Anselm knocked off the #1-ranked Golden Knights at Melucci Field, 2-0. It was the first time in program history the Hawks had beaten a top-ranked team in the country.
• Saint Rose improves to 11-3-3 all-time against the Hawks.
UP NEXT
• Saint Anselm will honor its eight-member senior class this upcoming Saturday, as the Hawks welcome Merrimack College in another Northeast-10 Conference showdown that likely will have playoff implications. It will be Saint Anselm's final home game of the season, as the Hawks close out October on the road.
