Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Bentley Sweeps Volleyball in Tuesday Matchup

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomores Amanda Williams (North Andover, Mass.) and Katy Teets (Dix Hills, N.Y.) each tallied a match-high 11 kills but the Saint Anselm College volleyball team dropped a 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 sweeping decision to Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University Tuesday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Williams led the team with a .292 attack percentage en route to her fourth double-digit kill total of the season with a match-high 11. She also added a block assist on the evening.
• Teets eclipsed the double-digit kill tally for the ninth match this season, adding a trio of digs and a block assist to her 11 kills.
• Freshman Jewel Hays (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) racked up 28 assists on the evening, six digs and a service ace.
• Junior CC Chrisom (Dover, N.H.) collected a team-high 10 digs.
• Freshman Gianna Bowman (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied her first pair of collegiate kills, both coming in the third set on well-placed drop-shots from the back row. She also chipped in five digs and a service ace for a productive outing.
For the Falcons…
• Shannon Kelly matched Williams and Teets with 11 kills on the evening to lead Bentley.
• Libero Jessica Segal picked up a match-high 17 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After playing point-for-point for much of the first set, a tandem block from senior Lauren Oxley (Bristow, Va.) and freshman Sarah Lowery (Chicago, Ill.) handed Saint Anselm a 17-15 lead. However, Bentley battled back with a 5-0 run, then turned on the after-burners by closing the first set on a 10-3 run to take the opening frame.
• Kills by Lowery and a pair from Williams opened the second set strongly with a 6-2 run, but the Falcons stormed back to induce a plethora of Hawk errors to take its first lead, 8-6. The teams jostled through much of the middle of the set before Bentley broke a tie at 18-18 with a 7-1 run to seal a 2-0 lead.
• Bentley assumed an early lead in the third set and held the Hawks at wings'-length for much of it before securing the clean sweep with an emphatic stuff block.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Much like the two teams' first meeting, statistically the teams played nearly identical volleyball, save for a few glaring differences—specifically on the attack. Bentley recorded just one more kill than the Hawks, but seven fewer errors while hitting .226 to Saint Anselm's .140.
• Both teams recorded four blocks on the night, with Bentley holding a slim 47-43 advantage in digs.
• Bentley recorded five service aces to Saint Anselm's three, but the Hawks also recorded nine miscues from the service line.

NOTES

• Bentley improves to 29-0 all-time against Saint Anselm in the 23-year history of the matchup.
• Saint Anselm's losing streak slides to four straight matches.
• The Hawks also fall below the .500 mark in NE-10 play for the first time this season at 2-3.

UP NEXT

• Saint Anselm will look to get back on track later this week as it will host NE-10 foe Saint Michael's College for a Friday night showdown at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
