Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Takes Two from Assumption in Saturday Doubleheader

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Kasey Moran (Medford, Mass.) was 3-for-6 on the day and seniors Monique Gauthier (Canton, Conn.) and senior Nicole Boucher (Woonsocket, R.I.) each added two hits apiece as the Saint Anselm College softball team took two games from Assumption College (1-0, 5-1) on Saturday afternoon for Northeast-10 softball action.

The Hawks will improve to 15-7 overall and 8-3 in the conference, while the Greyhounds drop to 9-15, 3-9 NE-10.

GAME ONE

Saint Anselm pushed across the game-winning run and only run of the game in the first inning when sophomore Pattie Turner (Warwick, R.I.) drove in Boucher, who reached on a walk. The Hawks held onto the lead through the final six innings, thanks to solid defense and another stellar pitching performance from junior Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine). Trask pitched the complete-game shutout, striking out eight batters, giving up six hits and walking none.

Moran went 2-for-2 at the plate and senior Olivia Story (Middleton, Mass.) ripped out a double.

GAME TWO

The Hawks put up two runs in the first inning on a pair of hits. Boucher led off the inning with a walk and then moved to third on a pair of stolen bases. Moran drove in Boucher in the next at bat with an RBI single to right. Turner laid down a SAC bunt, advancing Moran to second and she came around to score on a double from Gauthier

In the following inning, the Hawks doubled up their lead when Boucher hit a two-run shot to left. Senior Gina Treglia (Fairfield, Mass.) rounded the bases along with Boucher as she reached base on a single.

The Greyhounds earned one back in the third for their only run, but Saint Anselm had the answer in the fifth when Boucher hit her second home run of the day down the left-field line and brought the game to its final score of 5-1.

Boucher and Gauthier were both 2-for-3 on the day - Boucher with two home runs and Gauthier with a pair of doubles. Junior pitcher Paige Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) scattered five hits over seven innings and struck out two batters.

The Hawks will return to action Sunday, April 13 as they head back to Assumption for a second doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. Stay up-to-date with the latest news, including game previews and recaps, directly from the Saint Anselm College athletic department by friending us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/STAHawks) and following us on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/STAHawks).
