GORHAM, Maine – Junior Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) scored a goal and added an assist and senior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) recorded two helpers as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team shut out the University of Southern Maine, 3-0, Friday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena in ECAC Women's East ice hockey action.

With the win, Saint Anselm takes its sixth straight to improve to 21-3-0 overall and 13-2-0 in ECAC East play, while the Huskies drop to 10-13-1, 7-8-0 ECAC East.

Herron struck for the 1-0 lead at 2:54 of the first when she tipped in an Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) slapshot from the left point. Winters initiated the play with the original pass to Foss at the point.

The Hawks doubled up their lead at 16:07 on a power play when freshman Alexandra Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) picked up a loose puck in the high slot and sent it past Southern Maine goaltender Liz Bergstrom. Senior Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.) began the play with an initial shot that was blocked by a Southern Maine defender, before Starzyk snagged the free puck. Herron also picked up an assist on the 2-0 tally.

Saint Anselm went on to make it a 3-0 game at 7:10 of the third period when sophomore Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) received a pass from Winters and sent a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that trickled through the pads of Bergstrom.

Junior Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) stopped all nine shots she faced to earn the shutout and the win, while Bergstrom stopped 23 of 26 shots on goal. The Hawks held a 26-9 edge in shots on net.
