Greyhounds Knock off Volleyball in Friday Matchup, 3-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – A hot start wasn't enough to carry the Saint Anselm volleyball team Friday night as the Hawks fell to Assumption 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 in its penultimate game of the season at Stoutenburgh Gym.

Saint Anselm opened the first set by hitting a solid .250 from the floor on 14 kills and just five errors. But the defense—particularly in serve receive—never got into its groove as Assumption reeled off the next three sets to finish its 2013-14 season with a road victory.

Offensively, freshman Amanda Williams (North Andover, Mass.) tallied a team-high 11 kills on .375 hitting, but freshman outside Kathryn Teets' (Dix Hills, N.Y.) 10 kills accompanied 10 errors for a .000 attack percentage on 40 swings. Sophomore right side Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) added nine kills while senior Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and junior Lauren Oxley (Bristow, Va.) chipped in eight and seven put-aways, respectively.

Defensively, Saint Anselm got a season-high 18 digs from sophomore CC Chrisom (Dover, N.H.), who split time in the libero jersey with senior Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) Friday night. Senior Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) added another season-high with 11 digs and McNabb, Jewett and senior Jenny Doder (St. Louis, Mo.) all added eight digs.

As a team, the Hawks outdug Assumption 80-72 and tallied a nine-kill advantage Friday night, but Saint Anselm had 32 attack errors to the Hounds' 17, proving the difference in the matchup.

Saint Anselm will get a chance to end its season on a high note tomorrow for a noontime showdown against Pace. Six seniors will be honored prior to Saturday's regular season finale.
