Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Assumption Styimes Women's Soccer on Senior Day, 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm women's soccer team had a handful of chances to pull off a huge win Saturday afternoon, yet the ball simply wouldn't find the netting as visiting Assumption squeaked past Saint Anselm 1-0 at Melucci Field.

Assumption (11-3, 10-2 Northeast-10) got off to a great start by scoring on its first shot of the game in the third minute, sneaking a rocket shot near-post past starting Hawk goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) to notch the would-be game-winner.

Saint Anselm forwards Kendra Bonczar (Milford, N.H.) Alexis Elowitch (Portland, Maine) and senior Jenna Szostak (Carver, Mass.) each had opportune moments to tie the game, yet couldn't dial in the back of the net. Junior midfielder Rachel Gillies (Auburn, Mass.) tallied three of the team's eight total shots, but no Hawk could put a shot on-goal on Saturday.

Primera made one save in just under 14 minutes of action and took her first loss of the year, while sophomore Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Mass.) tallied 13 saves in a no-decision appearance.

Six seniors were honored prior to the contest, and the season-high crowd of 326 in attendance had a perfect autumn day for soccer. Saint Anselm also donned pink accessories in Saturday's game, participating in its annual Kickin' for the Cure in support of breast cancer awareness.

The Hawks will host Stonehill Wednesday evening under the lights of Grappone Stadium in what is likely a win-or-stay-home matchup for Saint Anselm in its hopes to earn its second straight Northeast-10 Tournament berth.
