Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Captures Ninth Straight With 5-2 Win at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Senior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.), sophomore Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) and freshman Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) each registered a goal and an assist to pace a balanced attack as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team skated to a 5-2 victory against Bowdoin College on Tuesday evening at Watson Arena.

The Hawks capture their ninth straight win to improve to 12-1-0 on the season, while the Polar Bears dip to 4-5-0.

Eleven different Saint Anselm skaters recorded a point, while four produced multiple-point efforts, including junior Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.), who handed out a pair of assists.

Saint Anselm fell behind early, 1-0, when Rachel Kennedy fed Schuyler Nardelli for the game's first goal just 1:12 into the contest. The Hawks would waste no time responding, however, as Geisinger struck just 45 seconds later off feeds from classmate Nina Gozzi (Suffield, Conn.) and Quinn.

Senior Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.) won the opening period for the Hawks as she received a feed from freshman Alison Butler (Danvers, Mass.) and beat Bowdoin goaltender Beth Findley to make it 2-1 at the 11:46 mark. Freshman Alexandra Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) was also credited with an assist on the play.

Quinn provided Saint Anselm some insurance 12:37 into the middle stanza when she picked up a pass from Geisinger and found the back of the net. Sophomore Jessica Galiczewski (Kings Park, N.Y.) earned a secondary assist on the play.

The Hawks would need that cushion as Chelsea MacNeil beat Saint Anselm junior goaltender Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) on the power play with just 43 seconds on the clock in the period to slice the deficit to 3-2. Nardelli and Kennedy dished helpers to set up the tally.

Saint Anselm regained its two-goal advantage 3:17 into the third period when Winters and Herron connected on passes to sophomore Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.), who put the puck past Findley to make it 4-2.

Winters sealed the win with 21 seconds to play as senior Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) and Herron set up her shorthanded, empty-net goal.

Brown made 30 saves for the Hawks, while Findley stopped 35 shots. Saint Anselm outshot Bowdoin, 40-32, including 14-8 in the third period. The Hawks came up empty on six extra-skater opportunities, while the Polar Bears were 1-for-6 on the power play.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Jan. 11 as they travel to UMass Boston for a 1 p.m. puck drop at the Clark Athletics Center. The next home game for the Hawks is Friday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. when they play host to New England College and host their "Pink in the Rink" initiative at Sullivan Arena.
