Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Jumps Franklin Pierce Early in 3-0 Win

WINCHENDON, Mass. – Senior goaltender Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.) stopped all 17 shots he faced and six different skaters recorded a point as the Saint Anselm men's ice hockey team blanked Franklin Pierce University, 3-0, Tuesday evening at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

With the win, Saint Anselm grabs its fourth game out the last six and jumps to 4-5-2 overall and 3-0-0 in Northeast-10 play, while the Ravens sink to 2-9-1, 1-3-1 NE-10.

Saint Anselm struck just 1:22 into the contest when senior Eric Czapka (Holland, Pa.) received a feed from junior Johnny Daniels (Andover, Mass.) on the right side of the ice and snapped a shot past Franklin Pierce goaltender Dave O'Brien to make it 1-0.

The Hawks doubled their lead just 13 seconds later as sophomore Mark Meads (Middleton, Mass.) slid a pass through the slot from left to right, finding junior Kody Grondin (Hampton, N.H.), who one-timed a shot inside the near post.

The Hawks went up 3-0 at the 8:14 mark of the opening period when they took advantage of a 2-on-1 breakaway in their offensive zone. Senior Joe Tebano (Glastonbury, Conn.) sent a quick pass from the left circle to the middle of the slot for senior Kevin Vanous (Virginia Beach, Va.), who easily put the puck past O'Brien.

O'Brien stopped 33 shot for the Ravens, who were outshot 36-17, including 13-4 in the opening stanza. Saint Anselm went 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Ravens came up empty on their three extra-skater opportunities.

The Hawks return to action Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. when they play host to the University of New England at Sullivan Arena.
