SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior Alex Pascal (Bluebell, Pa.), sophomore Bryan Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Peter Sikalis (Acton, Mass.) each scored goals for the Hawks, but the Saint Anselm College men's hockey team allowed a pair of Skidmore goals in the third period, skating to a 3-3 with the Thoroughbreds on Friday evening for ECAC Men's East ice hockey action.
The Hawks move to 5-7-4 overall and 3-5-4 in conference play, while Skidmore now stands at 6-7-6, 2-5-5 ECAC East.
Skidmore drew first blood, striking for the 1-0 lead at 11:30 of the first period when Brad Schuler picked up a pass from Tony Giacin and sent the puck past Saint Anselm senior goaltender Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.).
Sullivan leveled the scored, 1-1, however, at 14:24 when he was sent a feed from senior Joe Tebano (Glastonbury, Conn.) and he found the back of the net. Also assisting on the 1-1 score was senior Greg Merrill (Brighton, Mich.).
The Hawks went on to double up their lead under two minutes later when Pascal received a dish from sophomore Tyler Estee (Bow, N.H.) and he beat Skidmore goaltender Jack McDonald. Sophomore John Rogeri (Katy, Texas) was also credited with a helper on the play.
Sikalis put Saint Anselm up 3-1 when he buried the puck into the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Mark Meads (Middleton, Mass.) on a Hawk power play at 15:49 of the middle stanza.
Vlad Gavrik spoiled the Hawk lead, however, when he scored a pair of power-play goals within the first six minutes of the last period, bringing the Thoroughbreds back into the game. Despite the Skidmore goals, Saint Anselm held an 8-5 edge in shots in the final period. Overall, Saint Anselm more than doubled up Skidmore's shots on goal as the Hawks earned a 44-21 shot advantage.
Neither team broke the tie in overtime, but the Hawks took three shots on goal, while the Thoroughbreds got off four shots.
Dries totaled 18 saves, including four in overtime, while McDonald stopped 41 shots.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Jan. 25 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Castleton State College.
