Saint Michael's Triumphs Over Men's Lacrosse, 13-5

COLCHESTER, Vt. -  The Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-5 decision to Saint Michael's College on Wednesday afternoon at Duffy Field. The Hawks drop to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in Northeast-10 play, while the Purple Knights, improve to 7-2 and remain undefeated, 6-0 in league play.

After Saint Michael's jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Saint Anselm earned one back when James Peters (Medway, Mass.) picked up a pass from Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) and found the back of the net with 7:46 left to play in the opening quarter.

The Hawks opened up play in the second with a goal from Jake Mallinson (Middletown R.I.), who received a feed from Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I.) at the 12:31 mark. The Purple Knights scored five straight throughout the second, before Andy Budz (Williamstown, Mass.) added a tally for Saint Anselm, bringing the game to a score of 9-3. Messner was credited with an assist on the goal, which was scored on the extra-man advantage.

Saint Anselm dominated scoring in the third, scoring two goals in 20 seconds thanks to Kennedy and James Peters (Burlington, Mass.), cutting the Purple Knight lead in half at 10-5.

However, Saint Michael's tallied three goals to close scoring in the game, bringing the contest to its final score of 13-5.

Matthew Steele (Ipswich, Mass.) won 10 of 22 faceoffs for Saint Anselm and picked up a team-high seven groundballs.

Saint Anselm goalkeeper Jonathon O'Reilly (Plano, Texas) made eight saves, while Purple Knights net minder Chris DeMairo stopped 11 of 16 shots. The Purple Knights held a 39-35 advantage in shots on goal.
