WALTHAM, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College softball team won a pair of games over Bentley University with scores of 4-0 and 3-1 on Saturday afternoon for Northeast-10 softball action.
With the wins, the Hawks jump to 5-11 overall and 3-3 in NE-10 play, while the Falcons dip to a 5-13 record and 1-7 in league play.
In the first game of the day's double-header, the Hawks jumped on the board in the top of the third as Hayley Lombard (Boyton Beach, Fla.) led off the inning with a triple to left. Later in the inning, Lauren Galavotti (Marion, Mass.) drove her in for the 1-0 Hawk lead.
Saint Anselm added a run to their tally in the top of he sixth when Hannah Byrne (Lynn, Mass.) hit a fly ball to center, scoring Monique Gauthier (Canton, Conn.).
The Hawks added two more runs in their final at bat, extending the Falcon deficit to four at 4-0. With Lombard on second, Galavotti tripled to right scoring one run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Gina Treglia (Fairfield, Conn.) to plate Glavotti.
Lomard finished the game 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, while Galavotti ended with two RBI and a triple to her credit. Saint Anselm pitcher Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine) earned the shutout via seven innings pitched and six strikeouts.
In the second game, the Hawks were backed by seven innings from starter Paige Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) and two hits from Nicole Boucher (Woonsockett, R.I.).
Saint Anselm started with a bang, cranking out two runs in their first at bat. Boucher led the
inning off with a single to center, followed by a Galavotti hit-by-pitch. Treglia advanced the runners to second and third, before Gauthier singled to center, driving in both Boucher and Galavotti.
Bentley scored their only run of the contest when Natalie Tarantino scored on a passed ball, making it a 2-1 game.
The Hawks solidified their win in the top of the seventh when Hayley Leclaire (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) singled to center and advanced to second on a Lombard sac bunt. After a Boucher walk, Saint Anselm had runners on first and second with one out. Galavotti was hit by the pitch, loading the bases for Treglia, who singled to left scoring Leclaire.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, April 2 at 4 p.m. when they open up their home slate against Franklin Pierce.
