MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Julie LeClair (Taunton, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with three RBI's and a homerun and Kasey Moran (Medford, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs as the Saint Anselm College softball team earned its third straight Northeast-10 victory over Franklin Pierce University by a score of 7-4.
The Hawks will surge to 6-11 overall and 4-3 in conference, while the Ravens dip to 2-9 and 0-4 in league play.
After Franklin Pierce posted three runs in the top of the second, the Hawks came out in the bottom half to score two runs on a pair of hits. Monique Gauthier (Canton, Mass.) led off the inning being hit by the pitch and advanced to second on a Hannah Byrne (Lynn, Mass.) ground out. LeClair then homered to left, putting two runs on the board for Saint Anselm.
The Hawks tacked on another run the next inning when Nicole Boucher (Woonsocket, R.I.) scored after beginning the inning with a double. Franklin Piece continued scoring in its next at bat, putting the Ravens ahead 4-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Hawks tied the game when LeClair began the inning with a single and came around to score after a stolen base and a Raven throwing error.
Saint Anselm put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the game to its final score of 7-4. Lauren Galavotti (Marion, Mass.) initiated the scoring with a leadoff single through the left side. Gina Treglia (Fairfield, Conn.), who was next to bat, laid down a bunt that advanced Galavotti to second. With the bases loaded, LeClair singled through the left side, scoring Galavotti. Moran then tripled to left, clearing the bases and earning herself a pair of RBI's.
Saint Anselm starting pitcher Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine) threw seven innings for the Hawks only giving up two earned runs, while striking out two.
The Hawks return to action Thursday, April 4 at 3 p.m. when they commence a doubleheader with Saint Michael's, opening play on their home field.
