NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College softball team dropped a pair of games to Southern Connecticut State University on Sunday afternoon with scores of 4-0 and 4-3 as the Hawks continued Northeast-10 conference play at Pelz Field.
Saint Anselm will fall to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in NE-10 play, while the Owls will improve to 11-6 overall and 6-1 in conference.
Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine) pitched the first game for Saint Anselm, going seven innings, giving up
four runs and striking out four. Gina Treglia (Fairfield, Conn.) and Monique Gauthier (Canton, Conn.) each chipped in a pair of hits across three at bats.
In the second game of the day's double-header, the Hawks were tied with the Owls, 3-3, heading into the seventh, before Southern Connecticut's Brittany Bucko drove in the game-winning run for the walk-off win.
Paige Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) took the mound for Saint Anselm as she pitched through the seventh, giving up four earned runs and striking out four.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the fourth, the Hawks scored their first run of the day as Gauthier scored on a Hannah Byrne (Lynn, Mass.) sac fly to right.
Saint Anselm put two more runs on the board in the top of the fifth, to tie the game at three apiece, as Lauren Galavotti (Marion, Mass.) hit a single through the right side that plated both Kristen Peffer (Cumberland, R.I.) and Olivia Story (Middleton, Mass.).
Nicole Boucher (Woonsockett, R.I.) doubled in the top of the seventh, but she was left on base and Southern Connecticut came away with the win in the bottom of the inning.
