Women's Hockey Skates to 3-0 Victory at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. –Senior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist as the Saint Anselm College women's hockey team shut out Neumann University, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

With the win, Saint Anselm propels its record to 3-0, while Neumann descends to 0-2.

Both teams skated through the first period without any scoring, although the Hawks held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Sophomore Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) broke the scoreless draw at 11:13 of the middle period as she took advantage of a five-on-four and beat Neumann goaltender Justina Mayr. Junior Franny Nicholson (St. Paul, Minn.) picked up an assist on the play.

The Hawks doubled up their lead with just over three minutes left in the period as Winters found the net after she connected on a pass from sophomore Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill).

Saint Anselm scored its final goal 2:32 into the final period when Winters dished a pass to freshman Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.), who shoveled it past Mayr to make it a 3-0 game.

The Hawks held a 40-13 edge in shots on goal, including 33-9 in the second two periods. Saint Anselm was 1-for-4 with the extra skater, while the Knights missed out on all five power-play chances.

Hawks goaltender Hannah Synnott (Montclair, N.J.) made 13 saves in her first career start, while Mayr made 40 stops.

The Hawks return to action Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. when they take on Neumann for a second time during their roadtrip to Pennsylvania.
