Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Surrenders Three-Goal Lead in 5-4 Defeat at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. –  Freshman Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist, as she was one of three freshmen to score a goal, but the Saint Anselm College women's hockey team allowed Neumann University a 5-4 come-from-behind win as the Hawks wrapped up their road trip to Pennsylvania.

Saint Anselm drops to 3-1 on the young season, while Neumann gains its first win to stand at 1-2.

Saint Anselm jumped on the board first, 11:40 into the game, when Quinn registered a goal off a pass from senior Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.). Senior Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) was also assisting on Saint Anselm's 1-0 strike.

The Hawks then doubled their lead at 3:14 of the middle period when freshman Chelsea Stanclift (Warren, Vt.) received a pass from Quinn and beat Neumann goaltender Julia Fair. The Knights countered, however, when Edie Brenning scored less than two minutes later at 5:07. This didn't sit well with Saint Anselm, which answered at 8:29 when freshman Alison Butler (Danvers, Mass.) picked up a dish from sophomore Marianne Kristiansen (Anchorage, Alaska) and put the Hawks up 3-1.

Saint Anselm pushed the lead to three less than two minutes later when junior Franny Nicholson (St. Paul, Minn.) passed the puck to her classmate Sabrina Iannetti (Lynn, Mass.), who buried it in the back of the net to make it a 4-1 game.

Neumann sparked its offense before the end of the second and scored two goals, including one short-handed and one on the power play to cut the lead to just one before heading into the break.

The Knights continued that momentum into the third period as Meghan Power scored her second goal of the game, just 35 seconds into the period, off a pass from Brenning, who recorded three assists on the day.

With the game tied at four apiece, Angela Gilmour picked up the Knight's second short-handed goal of the game to give them their first lead of the contest – one they would hold onto for the last 10 minutes.

Despite the loss, Saint Anselm held a 39-19 edge in shots on goal. Freshman Hannah Synnott (Montclair, N.J.) played just over two periods and made seven saves, while junior Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) also made seven stops in 18:08 of play. Fair made 35 saves.

The Hawks return to action Friday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. when they play host to Nichols College at Thomas F. Sullivan Arena.
