MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) potted a pair of goals and senior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) tallied up three assists to lead the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team to Saturday evening's 3-0 victory against Nichols College at Thomas F. Sullivan Arena.
The Hawks run their record to 4-1-0 on the season, including 2-0-0 in ECAC East play, while the Bison dip to 0-2-0, 0-1-0 ECAC East.
Saint Anselm jumped on the board first 7:54 into the game when Winters carried the puck up the left side of the ice before cutting into the near circle and flicking a pass to the far post where Quinn was waiting to put the puck into the back of the net.
Quinn doubled the lead at 12:12 of the second period when she collected the rebound off a shot from sophomore Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) and put it past Nichols goaltender Tori Gianformaggio to make it 2-0. Winters was credited with her second assist of the game on the play.
The Hawks expanded their lead to 3-0 on the power play at 9:33 of the third stanza when senior Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.) slid a puck from right to left along the blue line for classmate Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.), who ripped a slapshot from the top of the left circle that ricocheted off a Nichols defender and into the net at the far post. Winters initiated the sequence with a pass to Bouchie from right boards.
With her three points, Winters moved past former teammate Kathryn Picarello into third place all-time in the program record book with 108 points.
Junior goaltender Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) stopped all 10 shots she faced, while Gianformaggio made 49 saves.
Saint Anselm outshot Nichols 52-10, including 20-2 in the opening period. The Hawks were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Bison came up empty in their three turns with the man-advantage.
