Women's Hockey Perseveres to 2-1 Win at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Sabrina Iannetti (Lynn, Mass.) scored at 8:04 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over the College of the Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon for ECAC Women's East ice hockey action.

Saint Anselm continues its climb to 7-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the ECAC Women's East, while Holy Cross is dished their second loss of the season to move to 5-2-0, 3-2-0 ECAC East.

With one power-play goal occurring each period, Saint Anselm jumped out to a 1-0 lead with less than three minutes left in the first as sophomore Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) picked up a pass from freshman Alexandra Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) and buried the puck past Holy Cross goaltender Alexandra Stevenson.

At 1:20 of the second, it was the Crusaders' turn to even the score when Mackenzie Boardman beat Saint Anselm goalie Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) making it a 1-1 game.

Iannetti came to the rescue for the Hawks when she received a feed from freshman Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) and put Saint Anselm back on top, 2-1. Senior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) was also assisting on the game-winning goal.

Brown made 16 saves, while Stevenson stopped 13 of 15 shots on goal.

The Hawks return to action Monday, Nov. 25 when they play host to the University of New England for a 7 p.m. puck drop at Sullivan Arena.
