EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Kendra Bonczar (Milford, N.H.) scored 24:14 into the game as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team played to a 1-0 victory over Stonehill College on Wednesday afternoon for Northeast-10 women's soccer action.
The Hawks will jump to 7-6-3 overall and 6-5-2 in the conference, while the Skyhawks dip to 5-10-2, 5-7-1 NE-10. With the win, the Hawk have clinched their first Northeast-10 playoff berth since 2009.
Sophomore Callie Millet (Lancaster, Mass.) initiated the score for Saint Anselm as she took the initial shot on net that was saved by Stonehill goalkeeper Amy Wheaton. Senior Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.) picked up the rebound and passed it over to Bonczar, who booted the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 score.
The Hawks held onto the lead for the remainder of the contest, backed by three saves from freshman Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.).
Saint Anselm was outshot 11-7, but held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Nov. 2 at noon when they play host to Le Moyne College for Senior Day.
